WIM Trisha Kanyamarala, who made her second norm towards the Women’s Grandmaster title last month at the Kragero Open in Norway. She scored 5.5/9 including a win against a grandmaster in the first round.
After success in Norway, Trisha makes Ireland proud by clinching the title of British Women’s Rapidplay Champion 2024. It was a two day event played over the weekend at Holiday Inn Peterborough – West.
The first Irish player to tie for 1st place in the prestigious British Rapidplay Chess Championship’s 38-year history, dating back to 1986. This edition received a record number of 200+ participants.
After the final round, both GM Danny Gormally and Trisha were tied for first place, to determine the winner, they played a 2-game blitz tiebreaker. Danny scored 1.5/2 to clinch the title.
Additionally, Trisha becomes the first female player to share the 1st place position.
