Alapin for the win | Mamedov – Kulaots | Rapid chess

Both grandmasters once played in elite round-robins with limited sucesss. Mamedov has reached 2700 but couldn’t keep pace with other competitors. He chooses Alapin as opening less studied as considered not to be the main weapon against Sicilian. Even though light squares seems weaker for Black, white hadn’t had enough resources to break through.

  1. Looks like they agreed a draw. Misleading video title.

  2. I could not tell if this was a draw. What I could tell that in the opening to middle game, white was dominating in space advantage (particularly on the queen side) and had better placed pieces.

I feel like white should have pushed harder for the win with the position he had.
