Middle School has three sections separated not by grade, but by Rating. We use the NWRS Ratings for the initial parings. The event is for all players grade K thru 8. You do not need to “qualify” in order to play.

ALL PLAYERS MUST BRING AND USE THEIR OWN CLOCKS – NO EXCEPTIONS

U-1100 – This is a section for those players with ratings under 1100.
This is a 5 round event that is played on the same floor as the Elementary School Championships. They use the same time controls (Game 25 with a 5 second delay).The schedule is the same as that of Elementary School. Parents are not allowed in the play space.

U-1500 РThis is a section for those players with ratings Under 1500.  This is a FOUR ROUND EVENT but has a LONGER TIME CONTROL. (G/45 with a 5 second delay). Parents and other players ARE allowed to observe (respectfully) so long as they do not interfere with the game. This is a ONE DAY EVENT. This event is played on the 4th floor of the convention center.

OPEN – This is a 5 round, 2 day, “Dual Rated” event (we rate both for NWRS and USCF). Time controls are much longer (G/90 with a 5 second delay). The first day is played on the 4th floor of the convention center. The second day is held at the Marriott Hotel across the street. You may request up to 2 Half Point Bye’s to accommodate personal schedules (if you cannot attend Sunday or have other commitments).

“Playing UP”

Players qualified to play in the U-1100 may play in the U-1500 and may make that request any time until Friday night at 8pm PDT.

    Players qualified in the U-1500 may REQUEST to play up to the OPEN and are subject to approval by the Tournament Organizer.
